A massive decentralized world

Games are ingenious. They enable creativity and novel solutions. The best games reward their players for breakthroughs and offer multiple ways to play. Some even teach us something about our own world.

Most games are played over land, and with non-fungibility the line between physical and digital territory is increasingly blurred. Property itself is in a period of redefinition, and we have a chance to guide that discussion. Technology isn’t deterministic. We have choice. Seeing this opportunity, our team achieved a technical first, minting Cryptolization as the first web3 continent in existence.

We believe experiments guide advancements faster than theory. Cryptolization is being built to be as open-ended as possible, providing a base for developers and builders to create their own worlds—whether that be new ways to share public spaces, divide resources, or cooperate.

Of course we may see that same community instead create cartels, empires, and devolve into a set of warring states — but live and let live. Your choice.

As we build out Cryptolization, we’re taking substantial inspiration from the Civilization games. Here you can see the game is played over tiles. In Cryptolization those are assets owned by yourself and others. At the same time, you can see that resources are spawned over territories. We will be airdropping our own resources that have certain traits to territory holders. We aim to give Territory owners choice over those functionings.

More Than a Game

We’re working hard to make Cryptolization fun and potentially lucrative in its own right. But the best games provide us lessons about our own world. And there’s a chance that Cryptolization’s emergent play can provide novel solutions for handling our toughest problems in our present world. For example, gameplay may spark novel approaches for public goods’ allocation and handling externalities (of particular interest, carbon).

This belief is based on the idea that just as the separation of the physical world and digital world is being blurred, so too is the transition from the digital world to the physical. Our hope is that Cryptolization may offer lessons for our own world.

Getting involved

A way to ‘stake’ this world is to hold Cryptolization territory. Each territory has a hash that corresponds to a location on the map. When you mint or buy cryptolization, you own that piece of the map. On that piece, you may sell or rent it to others to build on, leave it as a park, or really do whatever you choose with it. It’s your sovereign territory. Ownership is important.

Team

Our team’s background is a hodgepodge of social theory and software hackers. The proceeds from our NFT sales allow us to keep these individuals, who are working at a pay cut to build this out. In addition, proceeds cover paying for minting costs, hosting, and all those other building expenses.
